Did you know that safety and security is fast becoming the primary concern of business travellers? Recent research has found that 37 per cent of travel buyers have faced higher levels of traveller safety enquiries since April. The same study also showed that 39 per cent of buyers failed to conduct regular emergency planning meetings, and at 27 per cent almost a third of travel buyers admitted to not having a detailed emergency plan in place at all.
However raised concerns have led to changes taking place within the majority of travel procurement departments. 83 per cent have said they are now looking towards the latest technology to alleviate travellers’ fears, and 79 per cent are starting to offer ‘proactive safety communication’ to their employees.
The research was carried out by ACTE and American Express in order to assess the global concerns of business travellers. Greeley Koch, executive director of ACTE, said: “Travel managers cannot afford to be complacent when it comes to worst-case scenario planning. The status quo for many organisations is to react to a crisis - but this leaves travellers in danger. Proactive planning is an absolute necessity in an evolving global threat environment.”
45 per cent of the 170 corporate travel buyers taking part in the survey said they would like more help from their travel management company, asking for more help improving safety and security for their travellers. A further 38 per cent said they were interested in installing emergency check-in technology to help them locate and keep in touch with their people in the event of an emergency.
