In the event of a national or international emergency would your company know what to do? Legal duty-of-care requirements say that it should and yet in recent polls only 42% of the people surveyed said they believed their company would know what to do should the unforseen occur. Of those polled 53% of travellers had already been caught up in some kind of emergency event or natural disaster. With record numbers of business trips being taken that's not necessarily surprising, what is surprising however is that of those people a staggering 41% were not even contacted by their company. Of the 59% who were contacted 37% rated the contact as only mildly helpful. The survey clearly hi-lighted a lack of confidence in the ability of their employers to deliver effective assistance during a major incident. Only 42% were confident that their company would know what to do in an emergency situation, this is in stark contrast to the 95% of people who stated they wanted their company to have processes in place to identify the location of their travellers and contact them in the event of an emergency.
The survey was carried out with the assistance of just over 1,000 travellers who acknowledged that businesses are learning lessons about duty-of-care, with restrictions being placed on trips to areas considered unsafe. However even the most politically stable regions are not exempt from natural disasters or industrial action.
