Liquids and gels in your handluggage have been restricted and controlled for quite some time, however powders are soon to be included on that list of banned products as new Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements for flights to the United States come into effect from June 30 2018. American Airlines is encouraging customers to place powder-like substances over 12 oz. / 350 ml in their checked bags.
Powders in carry-on bags may require secondary screening, if the powder cannot be immediately identified by security officials it will be prohibited from the cabin of the aircraft and may be confiscated.
This policy does not apply to flights departing from the United States and/or United States territories, as the TSA has already implemented enhanced procedures at their security checkpoints.
If in doubt, and to avoid having your items confiscated, we recommend packing any powders, or powder based products (such as cosmetics) in your checked baggage.
