International Airlines Group (IAG) the owner of British Airways has today announced it is considering making an offer to buy low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle
IAG confirmed it already has a 4.61% stake in the airline which it considers to be “A position from which to initiate discussions, including the possibility of a full offer for Norwegian” However IAG maintain “No such discussions have taken place to date” and “no decision has been taken to make an offer” which means there is no certainty any offer will be made.
Regardless of the fact that discussions haven’t even started IAGs interest alone caused shares in Norwegian Air to rocket by 37%.  A spokesman for Norwegian claimed the airline had no prior knowledge of IAGs interest, but welcomed the possible investment. Norwegian is currently valued at approx. $1.2bn (£845m)
