Qatar Airways continue global expansion

Qatar Airways have begun the New Year with a myriad of new route announcements to Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Greece and the UK. Qatar Airways began a new service to Vietnam’s Hanoi on 1st January and will fly to Pattaya, Thailand, from 28th January; Penang, Malaysia from 6th Feburary: Canberra, Australia, from 12th February; Thessalonki, Greece from 28th March; and Cardiff, Wales from 1st May. There are also plans to increase capacity to Perth, Australia, from 1st May with the introduction of the flagship A380 on the route.

Etihad Airways partner with Team England for 2018 Commonwealth Games

Team England have signed a deal with Etihad Airways to transport their 650 athletes and officials to the 2018 Commonwealth Games on Australia’s Gold Coast. Team England preparations begin in Brisbane with a holding camp from 19th March and the games themselves get underway on 4th April. There will be plenty of travel options for spectators with Etihad currently operating 33 connecting flights weekly to the Australian destinations of Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth from London, Manchester and Edinburgh.

Online passport service extended

The HM Passport Office has extended its passport renewal service to those aged 16 or over. The most convenient way to renew the document online was previously only available to those aged 26 and over.

The move follows a Passport Office survey that found, with more than 300,000 16-25 year-olds a year renewing their passports that 63% of people would prefer to use the online method.

British Airways JFK Terminal 7 redevelopment for 2018

As part of the JFK Terminal 7 redevelopment, the First Lounge is now closed until summer 2018. Once completed, customers will be able to relax and unwind in a more welcoming environment before flying. Gold card holders can use the Club Lounge in the interim.

British Airways is investing £52 million to provide an improved experience when travelling through New York JFK Terminal 7; the redesign will be completed at the end of 2018.

2017 A brief look back

As 2017 draws to a close we take a reflective look back over a year filled with so many events that it would be impossible to list them all. As always travel issues have taken up plenty of media column inches, whether it’s been due to adverse weather, natural disasters, industrial strikes, terrorist attacks, or political instability. 2017 was the year that saw the search for missing Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 finally called off, leaving us no closer to knowing what really happened to the ill-fated flight.

Air France's new airline JOON takes to the skies

Air France has launched its new low-cost airline; JOON which is offering medium-haul flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle, and then will offer long-haul flights from next summer 2018. JOON began operations with services to Barcelona, Berlin, Lisbon and Porto on 1st December 2017. It will add seven destinations from Paris Charles de Gaulle on 25th March 2018 to Rome, Naples, Oslo, Istanbul, Cairo, Cape Town and Tehran. Flights to Mahe in the Seychelles and Fortaleza, Brazil, will follow in summer 2018.
