Blackpool International Airport Closes

The final commercial flight has left the now-closed Blackpool International Airport. Owners Balfour Beatty, which bought the site in 2008, put it up for sale in August following several years of losses, but no buyer has been found. Blackpool International Airport roots began back in 1909 as Squires Gate Airfield and grew in popularity in the 1950's with domestic routes to the Isle of Man, Manchester, London, Leeds, Birmingham, Southport and Glasgow.

Ebola Crisis: Air Travel is Low Risk

The World Health Organization has said the risk of transmission of Ebola during air travel remains low because unlike infections such as influenza, Ebola is not airborne.

Kenya Airways has rejected pressure to suspend its flights to the Ebola-hit states of West Africa where more than 1,000 people have died of the virus this year.

Virgin Atlantic Close Little Red

Virgin Atlantic has made the decision to ground its domestic airline, Little Red, after the short-haul services they hoped would provide significant numbers of passengers connecting to Virgin's long-haul aircraft at Heathrow failed. The London Heathrow to Manchester route will close at the end of March 2015 and the links from the UK capital to Aberdeen and Edinburgh will close at the end of September 2015.

British Airways Returns to Inverness

British Airways has re-launched daily flights from Heathrow to Inverness from 3rd May 2016. The new year-round service will offer excellent connections for Scottish passengers directly to Heathrow's T5 and British Airways' global network of more than 130 worldwide destinations. The flight will be operated on an Airbus A319, with up to 143 seats. The business community have hailed the re-launched services as major boost for local tourism to Inverness, the Scottish Highlands and Islands.

East Midlands Launch 24-Hour Customer Contact Team

East Midlands Trains has improved its services by offering passengers a 24-hour, 7 day a week point of contact within its control centre, becoming the first train company in the UK to offer this service.

The new customer contact team, based within the East Midlands Trains operational control centre in Derby, will be on hand to book passenger assistance, answer help-point calls, help to track lost property and deal with any urgent customer queries. The team will also be available to respond to customer queries coming via social media 24-hours a day.
