Mandatory Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization

The leniency period for Canada's new Electronic Travel Authorization ends today, 10th November 2016. All passengers flying to or transiting through Canada will need to purchase an electronic travel authorisation (eTA) prior to travel. The eTA supplies information to the Canadian Authorities about the nature of your trip and your reasons for entering the country.

Canadian eTA's mandatory from Friday 30th September

Earlier this year the Canadian government introduced an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) for customers flying into or transiting any Canadian point. All arriving customers travelling on a visa-exempt passport, which includes most UK and other European nationals, need to obtain an eTA through the Canadian government website in advance.

From the 19th May 2016 Icelandair will begin flying a seasonal summer route to Montreal. There will be four flights a week until the 8th November 2016 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays from Icelandair's Reykjavik hub, Keflavik International to Pierre Trudeau International Airport in Dorval.

Canadadian eTA's mandatory from today

From today all visa-exempt foreign travellers who fly to, or transit through Canada will need an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA).

The authorisation is electronically linked to the traveller’s passport and is valid for five years or until the passport expires, whichever comes first.

Applying for an eTA is easy. Travellers can apply online for $7 Canadian fee and most applicants will receive their authorization within a few minutes.

Entry Requirements When Flying to Canada

From the 15th March 2016 passengers who are visa-exempt for travel to Canada will be required to obtain an electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) prior to their departure to Canada. Visa-exempt passengers trasiting via Canada are also required to obtain an eTA prior to their departure. Exemptions include U.S. nationals and individuals who are in possesion of a valid Canadian.
