Qatar Airways launch flights from Cardiff to Doha and beyond

Qatar Airways is to launch a daily flight from Cardiff Airport to its hub in Doha, Qatar, in 2018.  The new service will be the first regular direct long-haul flight linking Wales and South West England to a major global hub in the Gulf region. It will allow business and leisure travellers to fly directly from their local airport via Doha to a choice of over 150 destinations across the globe in Asia, Australasia, Africa and the Middle East. The new service from Cardiff will be the latest addition to a growing network of destinations that Qatar Airways serves across the UK and Ireland.

Flybe expands Edinburgh and Aberdeen services to London

From 26th March 2017 Flybe, Europe’s largest regional airline will fly brand new services from Aberdeen and Edinburgh to London Heathrow offering a choice of more than 40 scheduled flights a week. Flybe will be using Heathrow’s Terminal 2 and will offer ‘One Stop to the World’ connectivity to its codeshare and interline partners. Flights have been conveniently timed for both business and leisure travel.

Norwegian Air launch North American routes from Edinburgh

Norwegian Air have announced they will fly three new low-cost North American routes from Edinburgh Airport in June 2017. The flights will operate daily to Stewart, New York, four times weekly to Providence, Rhode Island and three times weekly to Hartford, Connecticut. The direct long-haul flights will serve smaller US airports to provide customers with truly afforable fares whilst also offering great access to Boston, New York and New England. Norwegian also currently flies from Edinburgh to six destinations: Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, Barcelona, Tenerife and Malaga.

Virgin Atlantic increase West Coast connections

Virgin Atlantic, in conjunction with Delta, is updating is summer schedule to give customers a better choice of flights to the West Coast. From 1st May to 28th October, they will offer a third non-stop daily service between London Heathrow and Los Angeles International Airport.

Edinburgh Gateway Station improves transport links

The Edinburgh Gateway interchange railway station has opened on the outskirts of Edinburgh, linking the city's northern train line to the tram network and Edinburgh Airport. The new £41m station is part of the £742m Edinburgh Glasgow Improvement Programme (EGIP), which will see the electrification of central Scotland's railway infrastructure, and provide increased capacity and faster speeds on key routes.

Eleven airports to join US preclearance program

Stockholm airport will participate in the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Preclearance program for screening travellers overseas from as early as 2019.

The following airports have also begun negotiations to join the program; Bogota, Colombia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Edinburgh, Scotland; Kansai, Japan; Milan, Italy; Reykjavik, Iceland; Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paolo, Brazil; and Saint Martin in the Caribbean.
