Qatar Airways new UK departure airports and expanding network

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, announced the airline’s aggressive expansion plans and 16 new destinations for 2018-2019 on the opening day of ITB Berlin, the world’s largest international travel fair.

Qatar Airways forthcoming global destinations are London Gatwick, United Kingdom; Cardiff, United Kingdom; Luxembourg; Lisbon, Portugal; Tallinn, Estonia; Valletta, Malta; Cebu and Davao, Philippines; Langkawi, Malaysia; Da Nang, Vietnam; Bodrum, Antalya and Hatay, Turkey; Mykonos and Thessaloniki, Greece; and Málaga, Spain.

British Airways biggest ever Gatwick summer schedule

British Airways has announced its biggest Gatwick summer schedule in almost 10 years with more than 150 additional weekly flights added from the airport for summer 2018.

Weekly flights to Malaga will be boosted from 27 to 35, Alicante from 14 to 22 and Faro from 17 to 21, while the airline's summer flights to Tenerife will increase from six per week to 13. Madeira will be bolstered from six to nine per week and Lanzarote will rise from three to five flights per week.

China Airlines launch Gatwick service

China Airlines are launching a new non-stop service between London Gatwick and Taipei's Taoyuan International from 1st December 2017. The new A350 fleet will be deployed to offer four flights a week departing every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, making China Airlines the only airline in Taiwan to offer non-stop flights to London. Plus, China Airlines plan to demonstrate their ambition and commitment to the service by increasing the service from four to five flights per week on 25th March 2018, with an additional Tuesday flight.

Norwegian Air UK launches Gatwick to Singapore route

From the 28th September 2017 Norwegian Air UK will offer low-cost flights to its first Asian destination, Singapore's Changi Airport. This will be the first long-haul service to be operated by Norwegian's UK-based subsidiary, Norwegian UK. Four weekly flights, increasing to five from 30th October 2017, will be operated on Norwegian's new 787 Dreamliner aircraft offering up to 344 seats in both economy and Premium cabins. Norwegian already offers flights from Gatwick to nine US destinations, including newly announced routes to Seattle and Denver.

British Airways minimal disruption as strike action continues

All British Airways customers will be able to fly to their destinations, despite 14 days of further proposed industrial action by Mixed Fleet Unite between Wednesday 2nd August and Tuesday 15th August. The union represents one of five British Airways cabin crew fleets so the the vast majority of services will be unaffected. All flights to and from London Gatwick, London City and Stansted will operate as normal as will the weekend only Mediterranean services to and from Birmingham, Bristol and Manchester.

British Airways change to cashless only airport payments

From 1st April 2017, British Airways will be unable to accept cash payments at London Heathrow, London Gatwick and many of the airports they operate from in North America. This includes all types of payments, such as for extra bags, additional/exit row seats, changes to tickets, service charges, etc.

Customers who cannot pay with a credit or debit card should check with a member of staff at the airport to find out if options are available for converting cash to a payment card as this varies by airport:

Virgin Atlantic increase West Coast connections

Virgin Atlantic, in conjunction with Delta, is updating is summer schedule to give customers a better choice of flights to the West Coast. From 1st May to 28th October, they will offer a third non-stop daily service between London Heathrow and Los Angeles International Airport.

The move reflects the company’s strong ambitions to listen to customers and provide the best service and experience possible across the Atlantic by creating greater choice of flights and making connections even easier for customers during the peak summer travel season
