Marriott's Starwood Takeover Creates the World's Largest Hotel Group

Marriott International has agreed to buy Starwood Hotels in an £8 billion deal. Marriott's 19 brands, including The Ritz-Carlton, Residence Inn, and Courtyard will combine with Starwood’s 11 brands, including W Hotels, Westin, and Aloft, to create the biggest hotel company in the world. Between them, the groups own 5,500 hotels and 1.1 million rooms worldwide. The acquisition will allow guests to benefit from many more options across 30 hotel brands, whilst the hotels will benefit from the combined global platform in a quickly evolving marketplace.
